Brass instrument lessons in Frome

Flexible, friendly lessons tailored to your needs

Whether you’re picking up a brass instrument for the first time, preparing for exams or auditions, playing in a band or orchestra, or simply learning for the enjoyment of making music, lessons are tailored to your goals, interests and pace. My aim is to help you become a confident, independent musician in a relaxed, supportive environment where you can enjoy learning and develop lasting musical skills.

Alongside my teaching, I perform regularly as a french horn player with orchestras and chamber ensembles, bringing real performance experience into every lesson. I teach trumpet, cornet, french horn, tenor horn and trombone to children and adults of all abilities. Lessons are available at my home studio in Frome, Somerset (BA11), or online wherever you’re based. As well as local students from Frome, many travel from the surrounding areas including Warminster, Westbury, Trowbridge, Bradford-on-Avon, Radstock, Midsomer Norton, Shepton Mallet and Bruton.

What you can expect

Bespoke, encouraging lessons
Every lesson is shaped around your individual goals and needs. We’ll develop technique, tone, musicianship, music reading, listening skills and effective practice habits through engaging, enjoyable music-making, rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.

Exam and performance preparation
If you’re working towards graded exams, auditions, concerts or ensemble performances, I’ll help you prepare with confidence, covering repertoire, sight-reading, aural skills, performance technique and managing nerves. If you don’t want to do exams and just want to play for pleasure, that’s fine!

Professional piano accompaniment
Playing with accompaniment is an important and enjoyable part of learning. During lessons you’ll have the opportunity to rehearse with live piano accompaniment, and I also provide accompaniment for exams, auditions and performances where appropriate.

Support between lessons
After each lesson you’ll receive personalised notes and resources through your online learning portal, helping you stay focused and continue making progress between lessons.

Flexible scheduling
Choose a regular weekly lesson or book sessions individually to fit around your schedule. If your plans change, there’s no charge for cancelled lessons provided you give advance notice.
